Trinity Academy
  School History

Trinity Academy has a history and evolution that is clearly guided by the hand of God.  No human could have planned the events that lead to its establishment in 1996.

The founder, a retired Air Force officer, has nearly 30 years of experience in private, public and professional education.  Although he never intended to have such an extensive career in education, he invariably found himself in education and training throughout his life.

His journey through education began at a high school in a small New Mexico town, led him to positions at the university level in Texas and New Mexico, and ultimately to various professional education positions throughout his military career.  Over the years, he accumulated extensive experience with both traditional and “self-paced” curricula.  Additionally, just before he retired, he was an education director with a $50M annual budget.

When he retired from the Air Force in 1995, he moved his family to Ft Lauderdale, Florida expecting long days of sailing, diving, and sun bathing.  However, unable to find appropriate education opportunities for his 13 year-old daughter, whom had always attended private Christian schools, his retirement plans quickly changed when he decided to home-school her in 1996.

Within weeks, several additional families asked if he would also teach their children, and in less than six months, the enrollment grew large enough that he decided to start a private Christian school, based in his home.  Although his garage became the first classroom, desks were soon found in every room except the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms.

It became apparent after the first year that the physical constraints of his home limited the school’s capabilities, so he leased space from a local church the second and third years.  Today, the school is enjoying its seventh year and the third year co-located with a small Christian Home Church, Christian Fellowship (hisword2.com).  Although the school is a separate ministry from the church, both enjoy a partnership that has brought many families together in fellowship to the Lord.

“I couldn’t have imagined,” said Mr. Wells, “that when I accepted my first teaching position in 1975 and wandered through dozens of education organizations throughout the years, that everything I did and learned was only a part of God’s plan for this small school in south Florida.  Yet, as I review my life’s experiences, I can clearly see that every event in my life led and prepared me for this ultimate mission.  And although most of my experiences involved a much broader scope, budget, and span of control, I can say that none of my former positions were as important as the one I now have in this small Christian school. “

A man’s ultimate dream should be for him to have a chance to actively serve the Lord daily.  The events in Mr. Wells’ life have led him to that very end.  Just as he retired, his wife was hired by a major corporation in South Florida, providing not only the motive to move from Colorado, but also the financial means to start and operate the school without need of a salary.  Additionally, over the past seven years, God brought numerous highly qualified educators that either volunteered their time or worked for a salary that only a Christian can survive on.

Over the past seven years, Trinity Academy has never had more than three persons receiving a salary at one time, although we’ve had an extensive staff.  In the 2002-2003 school year, for example, only one staff member is salaried and the rest are volunteers, all with college degrees.  Consequently, we’re able to pass the blessings on to the children through greatly reduced tuition; a tuition that makes Trinity Academy affordable for families that would otherwise have no choice but public education.  Since Trinity is a small school, we graduated our first senior only three years ago.  Since then, 100% of our graduates have gone on to higher education, most receiving scholarships and earning acceptance into the Honor Society.

Trinity Academy is a family school with strong Bible-based values forming our foundation.  We exist not to circumvent the parents’ responsibilities and authority, but to supplement their efforts as they raise their children up in God’s way.  In partnership, we teach the children to be proudly set apart from the world and to be bright Christian lights that might help guide their lost peers through darkness and despair.  Our goal is not only to provide a good, quality education, but more importantly, to produce strong Christian leaders that will help guide our nation to God.  If our students and graduates are any measure of our success, America has a bright future filled with hope.

Trinity Academy’s logo is “Patriots” and our alma mater is “Semper Fidelis,” “Always Faithful.”  As a non-denominational school, our creed is to re-unify God’s children under one common goal: to serve Him by being faithful, loving servants to each other.  To borrow from the words of a former President, John F. Kennedy (who first borrowed the words from the Bible), we teach our children to “ask not what your brother can do for you, ask what you can do for your brother.”  It’s only through a strong sense of self-sacrifice and service that we can reunite under God and thereby, reunite our Nation.  Trinity Academy is humbled to be part of God’s Great Plan.
